frenemies.

first and foremost, let me state that i LALALALA - LOVE my precious kimbillion, miss lauren d. preston, and my daria sister marina.

this post is about the crazy and dramatic world of FRENEMIES.

upon my research into the term, i came across two definitions on urbandictionary.com:

1. frenemies

friends, yet enemies.

Ashley and i are frenemies, sometimes i just can't stand her.

2. frenemies

you can be friends yet enemies.

we are frenemies aka: friends in secret yet enemies to everyone else to keep our status.

brenda and kelly -- the ultimate FRENEMIES.

sound all too familiar? well, my friends, it is! frenemies are everywhere. they will infiltrate your life in all aspects -- personal AND business.

just a few little tips...

rule # 1: real friends don't move in on their friend's love interest. EVER. under any circumstance. all of my friend's boyfriends are GAY to me. gay with electromagnetic forcefields wrapped around them. if this ever happens, ABORT MISSION. cut off all ties. no, bitch, NO.

rule # 2: real friends are never JEALOUS. i admire lauren's ability to wake up in the morning, throw on a pair of sweats, and still have men throwing their bodies in traffic to get a glimpse of her, just as i am enthralled by marina's philisophical dissertations...but NEVER EVER EVER do i feel jealous -- rather i am proud to have them as my besties.

rule # 3: real friends are ALWAYS around. i will listen to my girls bitch and moan and beat a dead horse over some unworthy bastard till my ears bleed and my lips chapover. and i will still drive 57 miles to fetch them krispy kremes and haagen dazs(and pinkberry).

okay. this could take up about 7 more pages, but i'll leave it at three!

mari's political rants

the good girls aren't only about fun parties and mind blowing fashion sense. So, its time to get serious for a minute...
I found myself deeply disturbed after reading a recent article about the funeral of a slain Armenian journalist who spoke out against Turkey joining the European Union. Hrant Dink, a journalist, was best known as an advocate for the rights of the Armenian minority in Turkey, trying to engage the rest of the world to pay attention to the injustice which sprang from the lack of recognition from Turkey concerning the Armenian Genocide. After speaking out against Turkey Dink was arrested, and eventually released, only to be shot outside his office shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, Dink was not the first to get prosecuted under a provision which contains a ban on insulting "Turkishness." Among him were academics, journalists, and novelists.
Evil has always played a central role in modern life, especially as a component of our human condition. The complexity of today's inhumanity has made it difficult to create a dialectic for understanding evil. I think the challenge we face today is developing an effective way to approach this paradox. Perhaps one way to begin is to engage in active moral reflection.
If indeed Dink's death is an intervention on behalf of Justice then I hope that it can trigger soul searching, freedom of expression, as well as help to release the historical ghosts that shadow Turkey's present.

spring 07!

hello to everybody and also a happy belated new year's to anyone i haven't personally seen or spoken to! xx.

so all of my friends, and virtually anyone who's seen me out and about lately has probably heard me use the word "emo" in some context...myself, and consequently marina, have become quite obsessed with the term! so you can see how i became a little uncomfortable knowing that spring was just around the bend, thus ending my consuming fixation for all things black, grey, and brown.

two days ago, i was making my routine stop in japantown to the kinokuniya boookstore to pick up one of my seasonal fashion bibles -- this time, it was MODE et MODE (issue no. 337), and was shocked to see the bevy of dark silhouettes splashed across the pages! of course, there were designers opting for the typical bright springtime pastels, but some of my most fave designers were doing some amazing things in masculine looks and dark tones...

here are but a few of my picks -- my spring fashion report! hope you like it...

ANN DEMUELEMEESTER

some seasons, i can be a little on the fence with her, as she has a tendency to get a little too "stevie nicks" on me, but all in all, i am and will always be a fan of her deconstructed pieces.

Mari's rants and raves

You know that something isnt right in the world when A. half of the good girls are in sf while the other half are in LA. (Lets get it together ladies) and B. when i cant get my little manicured hands on a pair of the most exquisite pair of black balenciaga ankle boots.

On a different note, i have been contemplating a career as an ipod dj!

We're here!!!

Hello to all our friends on the world wide web...

So after months and months of nagging and deliberations, we've decided to start this blog as our own little spot on the net for our rants, our raves, and our philosophical quandaries (marina!)....

anyhoo, let this be a little window into our daily excursions. as well as an open forum for all of our friends!

xoxo
